Visible from virtually any location in and around Edinburgh, The Pentland Hills Regional Park is a range of stunning medium-sized hills stretching from south west Edinburgh to Biggar and the Upper Clysdale. Offering an abundance of fresh country air, over 10,000 hectares of breathtaking walks and panoramic views over Edinburgh, the Pentland Hills is a popular destination for walkers, cyclists and nature lovers and has a vast 100 kilometre network of waymarked paths that cater for a wide variety of activity levels.
For the more adventurous, there's mountain biking, horse riding, golf and orienteering on offer, as well as Pony trekking and alpaca walks for children.
If you’re looking for something that only the Pentland Hills can offer, look no further than the north tip of the park where you can find Midlothian Snowsports Centre, the UK’s largest artificial ski slope. Offering year round ski and snowboarding sessions, the centre promises to provide all of the fun and adrenaline you’d hope for from a nature-filled getaway.
Being so close to Edinburgh, The Pentland Hills are a ideal spot for those looking to combine a rural escape with bright lights and excitements of Edinburgh city centre. Wander the ancient cobbled closes and narrow stairwells of the Royal Mile, take a tour around the magnificent Edinburgh Castle and make sure to sample some delicious Scottish fare in the capital's many excellent restaurants.
